DRN Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (DRNM) focuses on the production of biodegradable polymers in many areas such as food packaging, plantation, medicine, heavy industry, and others. Biodegradable means that the materials can be decomposed either by microorganisms or other living organisms and turned in water, carbon dioxide, and biomass as waste. It means that the biodegradable polymer has the ability to be destroyed in a short period compared to conventional plastic. Biodegradable polymer is commonly produced by using renewable raw materials such as natural fiber, plantation wastes, factory wastes, agriculture waste, and others. This is because biodegradable polymers can be made of polypeptides, cellulose, polysaccharides, chitin or chitosan, and natural rubber.
Biodegradability depends on various factors such as the origin of the polymer, chemical structure, and the environmental degrading conditions. However, the mechanical behavior of the biodegradable polymer depends on their chemical composition, production, storage, the aging, and application conditions.
Biodegradable polymers can be processed same as conventional plastic processing technique such as film blo extrusion, injection molding, and thermoforming. As packaging waste has caused increasing environmental concerns, the development of biodegradable polymer has received increasing attention world wide.
